Everyone has their days. Dog's days fall in the month of August and include National Dog Day and the Dog Days of Summer.
National Dog Day serves to reach out to the public and recognize the many dogs that need to be rescued each year, as well as acknowledge dogs that work selflessly each day to make a difference in people's lives.
During these steamy days of summer there is still plenty of ways to have fun while staying cool and celebrating this observational holiday.
Here are 5 ways to celebrate National Dog Day:
- Go Swimming: Head for the beach, lake or your pool, and cool your feet and your dog's paws. It's fun to splash around in the water and dogs love to fetch toys!
- Outdoor Fun: If you and your dog enjoy the outdoors, there are lots of options. In the morning hours before it gets too hot, go for a walk, hike, or jog. Off the leash parks are also fun, especially when you bring along a canine buddy. Be sure to bring along plenty of water.
- Volunteer: There are many volunteer opportunities if your dog is friendly and well behaved. A growing number of libraries and schools invite canine volunteers to help children improve their reading skills. This program requires dogs to lie quietly while children read to them. You can also visit people at nursing homes and hospitals. You and your dog will stay cool while making a difference in someone's life.
- Teach your Dog a New Trick: Don't believe the saying "you can't teach old dogs new tricks." Learning new tricks will keep your dog's minds sharp and mouth full of treats. That's the fun part!
- Be entertained! Watch "Dancing with the Foskeys" video! You and your dog will be thoroughly entertained while watching these adorable dogs dance for good health. Happy National Dog Day everyone!
