Due to the deep bond between humans and our dog and cat furry companions, some of the best movies have emerged over the years. In Paw Prints Magazine August/September 2024 issue, Romeo's Report includes a list of twelve favorite films about dogs and cats that provide a timeless account to this special bond.
Dogs and cats are so lovable and there are many memorable screen stars that we have gotten to know over the years. Here’s our list of 12 favorite dog and cat movies of all times. Maybe you’ll even decide to watch one of these movies tonight!
1. One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961).In one of the most famous Disney movies, a cruel villainess abducts 101 dalmatian puppies and a team of a dog, cat, and a horse comes to the rescue. It is a dog movie with a cat character named Sargent Tibbs in a major role.
2. The Aristocats (1970) A Disney animated musical comedy adventure that tells the story of a family of aristocratic cats living in Paris. The film follows the adventures of Duchess, a refined and elegant cat, and her three kittens, Toulouse, Marie, and Berlioz, who become the target of a jealous butler named Edgar. When Madame Adelaide Bonfamille, their wealthy owner, decides to leave her fortune to her cats, Edgar hatches a plan to eliminate them and inherit the wealth. However, with the help of an alley cat and his friends, Duchess and her kittens escape Edgar’s clutches and embark on a journey back home. Napoleon, a Bloodhound and Lafayette, a Bassett Hound, are a pair of stray dogs, who appear as minor characters in the film.
3. The Adventures of Milo and Otis (1986). A story of two friends, a cat, and a dog searching for each other after getting separated. Milo the Cat and Otis the Dog grew up together on a farm and are best friends. The two get separated by accident and begin a journey to find each other.
4. Oliver & Company (1988). Oliver is an orange homeless kitten that is taken in by a gang of street dogs that survive by stealing. Oliver becomes a part of the team and follows the lifestyle of the dogs until he meets a rich little girl and his life changes forever.
5. Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993). In this wholesome movie, three pets, a wise dog, a witty puppy, and a sassy cat gets separated from their owners during a vacation. The animals decide to go on a journey across America to get back to their owners who are also looking for them
6. Cats & Dogs (2001). Cats and Dogs are two advanced species that are always at odds with each other. When a scientist develops a serum that will cure humans of dog allergies, an evil cat tries to stop that from happening. He aims to take over the world and it is up to the dogs to stop him.
7. CatDog: The Great Parent Mystery (2001). The movie revolves around a dog and a cat, conjoined by birth. They share the same body. During the Parent Day festival in their town, CatDog feels a little left out, so Dog suggests Cat an idea to look for their parents.
8. Garfield (2004). Garfield, one of the most popular cartoon cats in the world is a lazy tabby cat who lives with owner Jon. One day Jon brings in a new pet dog named Oddie. Garfield finds it difficult to welcome Oddie but they somehow get along with each other. Things take a turn for worse when Oddie gets abducted and it is up to Garfield to find him.
9. Bolt (2008). The movie follows the journey of Bolt, who lived his whole life in a bubble filled with misconceptions, and with the help of Mittens, an alley cat, he gets to experience the real world.
10. Marmaduke (2010). Marmaduke is a Great Dane that lives with owner Phil and his family. He has a cat best friend named Carlos and together they have lots of fun. One day Marmaduke develops a crush on a female dog. Carlo decides to help him and thus a new adventure begins.
11. Star Paws (2016).An evil cat named Adventure cat with an army of clone kitties is looking for a magical bone to take over the Galaxy. It is up to the Space Dogs, an elite force headed by General Ruff to stop Adventure Cat from wreaking havoc on the Galaxy.
12. The Secret Life of Pets (2016).The Secret Life of Pets is an American 3D animated movie about a dog named Max and his animal buddies including many cats. As the name suggests, the movie is about the lives of pets when their owners are not around.
